Brewing Beer 101
Sunday, August 4th from 2pm-5pm
A St. Luke's "Under the Tent and In the Kitchen" event!
Brewing Beer 101 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church
Sunday, August 4th from 2pm-5pm at 4011 Major Ave, Madison, WI. Have you ever picked up a home brewing book, or watched a home brewing YouTube video and then halfway through it decided this might be too complicated for me? If you have then this perfect Sunday afternoon activity is just for you. We will certainly honor the complexity that can go into making beer, but we will emphasize the simplicity of this beverage that has been made in every corner of the world for thousands of years. People were making beer long before litmus paper, recirculating pumps and conical fermenters existed. We will brew two five-gallon batches of two different popular styles of beer. One will be a full grain brew under the tent and one a partial mash in the kitchen. We will chat about styles of beer. The differences between lagers and ales. We will provide plain language explanations for technical terminology. (Come find out what partial mash means.) Best of all, we will sample beer while we are making it. The five-gallon batches will be kegged at a later date and then consumed in early September at a taco fiesta. Hope to see you on Sunday! |
